This is an International workshop organised by the IST OPTIMIST project in conjunction with ONDM'2002.
The workshop is aimed to provide an overview of the major trends of technologies, systems, and components enabling future photonic networks. The contributors to the workshop will be national and European R&D projects and European industry. A further focus of the workshop is to gather views and experiences from outside the IST programme and thereby strengthen the interaction between IST projects and other research efforts. Besides offering the participants a general view of the developing trends in photonics, the workshop will support the gathering of the information necessary to develop a roadmap on photonic network technologies for public dissemination, an objective of the IST project OPTIMIST.
