CURRICULUM

Fabio Neri is Full Professor at the Electronics Department of Politecnico di Torino, Turin, Italy. He was born in Novara, Italy, in 1958. He received his Dr. Ing. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Politecnico di Torino in 1981 and 1987, respectively. From 1991 to 1992 he was with the Information Engineering Department at University of Parma, Parma, Italy, as an Associate Professor.

From 1982 to 1983 he was a visiting scholar at George Washington University in Washington, DC. He has been a visiting researcher at the Computer Science Department of the University of California at Los Angeles, CA (Summer 1995), at the Optical Data Networks Research Department of Bell Laboratories/Lucent Technologies in Holmdel, NJ (Summer 1998), at British Telecom Advanced Communication Research in Ipswich, UK (Summer 2000), and at the Electrical Engineering Department of Stanford University, Palo Alto (CA), USA (Summer 2001). In the Summer of 2002 and 2003 he has been Visiting Faculty at Cisco Systems, San Jose (CA), USA.

His teaching dues include graduate-level courses on computer communication networks and on the performance evaluation of telecommunication systems.

His research interests are in the fields of performance evaluation of communication networks, high-speed and all-optical networks, packet switching architectures, discrete event simulation, and queuing theory.

He leads a research group on optical networks at Politecnico di Torino. He has recently been involved in several European projects on WDM networks, including the 5FP IST project "DAVID", which investigated the potential of optical packet switching in metropolitan and backbone networks. He is the coordinator of the European 6FP Network of Excellence "e-Photon/ONe" on optical networks, which involves almost 40 European research institutions, operators and manufacturers. He coordinated the participation of his research group to several national Italian research projects.

Fabio Neri is a member of the IEEE Communications Society. He served several IEEE conferences and journals. He has participated to the technical program committees of several conferences, including IEEE Infocom and IEEE Globecom. He was general co-chair of the 2001 IEEE Local and Metropolitan Area Networks (IEEE LANMAN) Workshop, and of the 2002 IFIP Working Conference on Optical Network Design and Modelling (ONDM). He serves in the editorial board of IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, and is co-editor-in-chief of the Elsevier journal Optical Networks and Networking.

He has co-authored over 150 papers published in international journals and presented in leading international conferences.
